No...No he committed more than just one crime. He killed people. If I had a year to live I wouldnt start icing people left and right...just because you're dying doesnt give you the right to kill everyone...it's not like the people he killed were all bad. Thus...He's the villain.

I love the dialogue where he's describing the thing he's seen. It sums up the reason why he was trying to extend his lifespan. And while he might have been a villain in the movie he does remark that he has done questionable things, meaning he does have a sense of what is right and wrong. Also remember he is in a society where it is legal to hunt his kind and kill them. While it might not justify homicide, you do have to keep that fact in mind regarding his character.

no, the villain was Tyrell- his creator. At least in the dramatical sense. The poetry of Roy's death seduced the audience, and aroused sympathy. Whatever.

Some say it was to keep his hand under control using the kind of improvised medical techniques often seen in militaristic films. Although I think it may have also something to do with a replicant's developing psychology / emotions described in the film, as in he was going crazy as he neared his expiration date because I guess those two things often correlate in them for whatever reason.

Oh, I just realized, elaborating on the hand thing, it was probably because of the overall situation where he was shutting down and he needed the pain to wake himself, that's basically what I meant by keeping his hand under control but I didn't explain it very well. Never mind everything else...

Ive seen tennis players do the same thing to their legs when they are way out of energy. Its to stop the muscles seizing up, altho obviously in this case its to keep himself alive just that little bit longer. Long enough to tell Deckard what hes seen in his short life.

The film is about lost horizons. We cannot be like Roy in many ways but the schizoid thing is that he dies, mortal like us, infected by his human creator with poor battery life. Machine is pure but let down by his creator, maybe like us humans. Maybe we were all pure at one point but our genetic blueprints are as flawed as Roy's, hence we die too, with much done and left to do. A shame, what? Oh, well time to die but when it rains feel all those souls in those raindrops!
