"addiction" "illness" "the game is addicting" cmon, wake up ppl, its not because of the game, its because society fails to provide them kids with valid alternatives to spend their time. else they wouldnt engulf themselves in wow for so long. and it will to continue until they get to the point and realize that they never adressed the real problem.

I think this video, along with psychologically research, proves that the game IS addicting. But we knew that already; it's fairly obvious to anyone who's played.
The difference is that there is no proof of permanent, negative, long-term affects, typical of other addictive substances such as cocaine or alcohol, if abused. The mother cites "personality change", but that's hardly a scientific measurement. And who says his personality won't revert if he stops? The game IS addicting but NOT bad.

and yes, the game IS addicting. But, it is easier to walk away from than physical substances...
IMO, if you can keep up a 3.6GPA on a 4.0scale consisting of 3 AP classes and play at least 60 hours a week, in addition to sports practice... who cares? (this is what i do)

Why does their house have no doors; and his wall is falling apart? The kid's got a CRT for Christ's sake, and he QUIT school at 16; and has no job. Clearly the last thing this kid needs going on for him is WOW. The mom should stop paying for it. I wonder where he is now, 3 years later in 2009...

I actually have to extend that to pretty much any game - the rival guildwars had me playing for around 10 hours when I first got into it with a decent character, and Oblivion had me playing for a total of 24 hours when it first came out (a few breaks here and there) and CoD4 has sucked up a good few hours aswell
Its not so much as addicting as it is enjoyable - my dad asked me why I played Mass effect for 14 hours straight whilst he was slouched in front of the TV. Its the exact same thing

WOW is not an addiction. To say it is, is a cop out and excuse for people who lack will power and priorities. An addiction must be mental and physical. Yes there is a mental crave for wow, but its on par with eating chocolate, you like it, you don't have to do it! There is NO physical addiction, there isn't a nerd chemical your body needs to balance out like nicotine requires. Learn to take responsibility for your life and actions and stop putting your flaws on a pedestal.
